APA Future of Advertising Forum - Internet Advertising Bureau Talk

Advertising Producers Association Future of Advertising Forum - BAFTA - March 5th 2008

Here's the first video of the APA's conference at BAFTA which drew 170 APA and IPA members eager to learn about the latest advertising trends. The speakers came from different perspectives and their presentations enabled the delegates to contemplate the latest thinking in their own business planning. Speakers included the commercial director of Facebook, leading Executive Creative Directors and Planners, the founder of the innovative advertising for mobiles company, Blyk, experts on trends in advertising on the internet and branded programming.

This is the first of five web videos from the conference and the first being from the IAB given by it's CEO Guy Phillipson where he tells us amongst many other facts that close to 90% of UK homes now have access to broadband and that the UK will be the first major territory in the world where digital adspend will overtake total TV adspend sometime in mid to late 2009. Other talks include Rory Sutherland from Ogilvy, Antti Öhrling Co Founder of Blyk, Marco Rimini Worldwide Head of Communications Planning Mindshare and  John Nolan Head of N.One The Digital And Commercial Division Of North On.

Here's David Armano speaking below at the Interaction 08 Conference. So many great talks listed here from the conference but Armano's brings together the principles and some great examples of experience design, meshing utility, creativity and technology, explaining how interaction designers are the hub whether they are for transactional sites, branded experiences, or content that makes you laugh including breaking out onto the mobile platform. King Corn Web Video

Everything you eat in America has corn in it. Whether the meat, as all animals are fed cheap corn, the sweets, the drinks, all processed foods. Corn is everywhere and do you think it has some correlation with obesity? This great article in NYT reveals all. I love the net for these types of disruptive web videos although this is a trailer the movie. Where else could someone make and distribute a film like this before? Maybe it would have been made for a traditional TV channel and shown twice but this form of marketing means it will hit it's target demo and be seen by influencers spreading it's message by WOM. via PSFK

Games, Education and Branding

The Perfect Educational Storm?
How do we educate through the use of new technology, making it fun in the process and generating brand awareness? Games. Is this even ethical as it no doubt would be aimed at an impressionable age?

One example is the game of tetris which has been transposed into American States and another version using European countries. Is this an educational tool? Would children learn where nation states were and what and where their capital cities were? Is it right that a travel company, airline or even a map company subtly brand the game?

In New Zealand they have taken it a step further. The advertising agency Rivet has developed a mini version of the game sim city called electrocity where you build a little city of a grid and manage it’s power and environmental needs. Watch the explanation web video here. This game is subtly branded by an electricity company. It was seeded out through primary school teachers into classroooms using it as a teaching aid and it has spread beyond the classroom and been a huge success. Is this a glimpse of the future? An educational system that is sponsored by business branding? Here's the game itself.
