Prototyping Services as Storytelling

I randomly found this web video from Bill Moggridge, holding a keynote at the danish CIID conference Service Design Symposium on the 180360720 blog.

How do you actually prototype an idea for a service?  To really bring all the elements together "from architecture, physical design, electronic technology from software" to clearly illustrate a new service or product, the most effective way is to tell it as a story, as a film. Near the end of this web video, there is another video within it from Intel which I use in my presentations, showing a near future or close to present now, where your voice activated phone will be your GPS. "it’s about storytelling, it’s about narrative."

David Armano - Experience Design and Convergence

Here's David Armano speaking below at the Interaction 08 Conference. So many great talks listed here from the conference but Armano's brings together the principles and some great examples of experience design, meshing utility, creativity and technology, explaining how interaction designers are the hub whether they are for transactional sites, branded experiences, or content that makes you laugh including breaking out onto the mobile platform. Ideas to bring sticky engagement to brand experiences. Via Brand New.

Deputy Dog - Blog of wonderful oddities

Picture_2

Deputy Dog is a wonderful blog that deserves a mention for it's great photographic and web video list of weird and wonderful things. DD calls itself 'a website dedicated to showcasing incredible examples of the world’s most fascinating architecture, inspirational design, phenomenal natural oddities…'

Much like the latest private cinema post pic above. He's drawn up the strangest elevators and my favourite was all the most unusual runways, most of which are crazy web videos of planes landing on mountain sides and beaches, all fascinating to watch.  Here's a crazy landing at Courchevel mountainside runway below.

Here's some of the best posts. 13 worst fake accents. ,11 phenomenal images of earth, top 9 unique structures soon to be built, interesting elevators, the steepest streets in the world, 10 of the best natural phenomena

Enjoy. Well worth bookmarking or adding to your reader.

UPDATE - Had to add these two pics of this Portugese runway which underneath is a car park...

iPhone has landed

I have an iPhone and I'll like it until it goes wrong. I received it at the end of last week and it's in many ways a great improvement on my trusty old Palm Treo but...Iphone it also has it's flaws. It works perfectly as a phone but once I'd loaded all my contacts into it's address book it doesn't recognize names and numbers with incoming callers. Slightly annoying. I love the fact that it joins any free wifi networks it passes and automatically downloads your emails at no expense to me from my mobile operator. This is going to kill email and browser connection through SIM/3G line. Safari works seamlessly too. Easy to download videos and music through itunes. It's all easy. Even my mother could work it out. It's completely intuitive and looks stylish too. Everyone wants to touch and feel it. Text messages take ages to load though. Still love it until it breaks.

London 2012 Olympics Logo and Logo Brand Film & Brand Film

Appalling. That's all I can say to this brand logo for the 2012 London Olympics and as for the brand logo film...I don't know why I've linked to it but what can say but god help us. I'm not blaming anyone in particular but when we have such world renowned directors and award winning post production skills here in London and this is what they produced?!

Here's Seb Coe's justification of it all (but read what Seth Godin got to say below too). We were going to apply to the London Olympic committee to try and tender for some of the film related work but once we saw the ODA application form and the hoops we would have had to jump through, we gave up. Maybe that's the problem?  The tendering process might have put us all off? So I guess it's congratulations to the production companies that did win the tender...and even Seth Godin has noticed and that's saying something.

UPDATE - I have since learnt that the brand logo film was produced by an events company as an after thought for the brand launch and of course wasn't meant to be noticed by us all. Here's the actual brand film for you all to watch too.
